Broken Wings

All Erin ever wanted to do in life was fly. Her close friend and copilot, Mick Hammon, helped her take the steps she needed in her life to achieve those goals. But when Mick is the pilot of a crash that kills 151 people including himself Erin must struggle with both her grief and her feelings of guilt. After all, Erin was supposed to be flying that plane.

Enter Addison Lowe, investigator for the NTSB. Addison must find the cause of the crash, determine who or what was at fault. That involves questioning Erin, whose hackles rise when she learns the evidence points to pilot error. As the public closes in on Micks family with cruelty and anger, Erin wants to prove that her friend was innocent of wrongdoing. But as the investigation continues, she finds herself attracted to Addison.

Addison has his own demons to handle. His wife died on a passenger plane years before, and his job makes his father-in-law his direct supervisor. Reality and emotions collide when his boss finds out that Addison is interested in another woman, and guilt may keep the investigator from pursuing a relationship with Erin a relationship his heart so desperately wants.

In Broken Wings, the last novel of the Second Chances series, Erin must struggle to overcome her feelings of guilt, remorse, and fear and get back in the pilots seat again. She must decide how much interest she has in the handsome investigator and in her friends skill at flying. And she must put her faith in a God and learn to be glad she missed that fatal flight.

We met Erin as a brave pilot, flying for the FBI, in Blind Trust. Now our relationship with her grows as we watch her struggle through her pain and her loss. Ironically, her courage to move forward comes from Micks nine-year-old son, and her sense of peace with Addison comes from Micks grieving wife. We find her in her moments of weakness, but can easily sense how strong of a woman she is. And in the final crucial moments, we see that, like Mick, she is a truly gifted pilot.

Blackstock has created an emotional and romantic world that we enter into once more. The dramatic tension is well balanced, and keeps the reader intrigued. The ups and downs of Erin and Addisons fledgling relationship keep us involved and compel us to continue in the story. She has once again created realistic, credible characters that are fascinating and enjoyable. Once again, Blackstock has drawn us into her fictional world with style and finesse.
