Credit Card Offers

Many of us have received pre-approved credit card applications in the mail. The majority of these offers urge you to apply right away, because the offer has an expiration date. Applying for a credit card before you shop around for the best deal is never a good idea. You could end up with a credit card with a high interest rate, or perhaps an annual fee you must pay.

There are many terms you must consider before opening a credit card account. The first term you will need to consider is what the APR of the card will be. An APR is the annual percentage rate of the cards interest rate. By law, card companies must disclose this rate to its customers. You will need to find out what type of APR the credit card company is offering. Is it a fixed rate or a variable rate? What factors do they use to calculate their APR? These are the questions you must ask before you obligate yourself to an account. Many credit card companies will offer you a low initial APR. After a certain time period that rate will go up. A high APR may affect how much your monthly payments will be.

Another important aspect of a credit card offer is if it has annual fees or transaction fees. If so, how much will you have to pay? Some credit card companies charge an annual fee to become members of their credit card. These fees range from $25 up to several hundred dollars. Most card companies also charge a fee if you use your credit card for cash advances, make a late payment or exceed your credit limit. Some cards may even charge you a fee every time you make a transaction. It is your responsibility to find out what types of charges the credit card company enforces.

Owning a credit card is a great responsibility. Applying for the right one can become a very difficult task. You will get many offers from different companies promising to give you the best deal. If you plan on applying for a credit card, look at more than one company, and compare to find out which one will give you a better deal. Shopping around could save you a lot of money.
