Quick and Easy vs. Slow and Steady

Ever noticed simple solutions are often the best? Someone comes up with the solution to a problem and you think "That's so obvious, why didn't I think of that?"

Yet simple solutions are not necessarily 'quick and easy' If you are having problems that stem from low self-esteem, the underlying issues have developed over quite some time. It's not as if one day you were doing okay, the next you found you had low self-esteem.

Nor is it the case that one day you have no self esteem and the next day you are overflowing with it.

There is a wide range of factors that contribute to having low self esteem. Often those issues show up in your life as something completely different. But more often than not self esteem, or lack of it, is a contributing factor.

Don't get me wrong. Quick, easy solutions to the issues you face have their place. What they do is give you some relief from the symptoms, so you feel better in yourself, but they do not address the cause.

It's a bit like having an allergy. You can relieve the symptoms, but only when you get to the root cause of the problem can you deal with it and do what needs to be done to be completely free of the dis-ease.

So it is with quick, easy solutions in the area of Self-Esteem. You can treat the symptoms, but unless you address the root cause those symptoms will continue to flare up.

Quick, easy solutions do two things:

(1) They provide the critics of the self-esteem movement with more ammunition. They can point to countless people who might have felt good after trying some quick fix solution, only to crash in a heap when the going gets tough. And the critics say " See, higher self-esteem doesn't work"

(2) It immunizes people against the concept of self-esteem. When you immunize someone you injecting a very small dose of whatever you are looking to protect them from so their immune system develops anti-bodies to fight the disease. So, with self-esteem, someone who tries some of the quick, easy solutions and finds they only work for a while will eventually become disinclined to ever try it again.

True Self Esteem is not about quick, easy solutions.

Its about starting on a journey of self discovery and development that is life long.

It's about becoming more and more open to the vast range of opportunities that are there just waiting to be taken up.

It's about becoming comfortable enough with who you are that life becomes an enjoyable journey.

It's about learning to make the most appropriate choices for you.

It's about living life the way it was meant to be lived.

It's about being free to make a worthwhile contribution to the betterment of this world in which we live.

And you can start on that sort of journey today.
